The history of Valley Hostel
Martha and Alfred Abegglen have always enjoyed hosting guests. Through vacation properties, they took care of many international guests over the years. Ultimately, Valley Hostel Lauterbrunnen arose from the dream to operate a B+B.
On the 27th of December 1997, the first guests were welcomed to Valley Hostel Lauterbrunnen and Martha’s dream became a reality. At that time, Valley Hostel Lauterbrunnen consisted of one chalet with 53 beds.
In the meantime, it has expanded to encompass three chalets with a total of 92 beds and 26 rooms.
In 2018, the reins were passed on to the second generation. The brother and sister team of Stefan and Fränzi took over operations from their parents.
Either the first, second or third generation of the Abegglen family are passionate hosts. Over the years, Valley Hostel Lauterbrunnen welcomed many repeat guests annually, including numerous international guests. Great friendships have developed this way, and these are still strong today.
After more tha 20 years in the Valley Hostel, Stefan changed his career and left the hostel. In his place Michal Szuplewski now welcomes our guests as host at the Valley Hostel.
The song of the spirits over the waters – the Staubbach waterfall that plunges 300 meters deep into the Lauterbrunnen valley with a misty spray was what inspired Goethe for his poem Song of the Spirits. Johann Wolfgang von Goethe visited the Lauterbrunnen valley in 1779 and made it famous with his poem.
