Lauterbrunnen<\/h1>\n

THE HISTORY OF LAUTERBRUNNEN<\/h2>\n

In 1240, a letter referred to Lauterbrunnen as \u201cin claro fonte\u201d (\u201cclear spring\u201d). When the scattered settlement was named, it was surely for the more than seventy waterfalls in the Lauterbrunnen valley (\u201clauter Brunnen\u201d \u2013 \u201cmany springs\u201d or possibly \u201cloud streams\u201d). In the 14th century, the Walser village of Lauterbrunnen was the main colony of L\u00f6tscher settlements in the \u201cOberland\u201d (uplands region).
